Teaching Students How to Learn

Fresco fosters independence and future readiness.

Fresco integrates metacognitive tools and learning strategies that help students set goals, monitor growth, and take ownership of their progress.

Goal Setting and Accountability: Students start each chapter by evaluating what they already know and what they want to learn in the upcoming chapter (Chapter Preview: KWL) and select Personal Learning Goals aligned to communicative outcomes. They identify strategies to help them achieve their goals, building intention and accountability from the start.
Learning Strategies in Action: Students learn how to use metacognitive strategies to navigate authentic materials and increase their vocabulary, allowing them to externalize their thinking processes and build awareness of how they comprehend, analyze, and construct meaning.
Reflection and Ownership: Self- and peer-assessment rubrics and end-of-chapter reflections guide students to evaluate their work, identify strengths, and set concrete next steps, supporting independence and a growth mindset.
Future-Ready Skills: The strategies that students practice with Fresco equip them with transferable skills that extend beyond the Spanish classroom, supporting success across academic subjects and college and career readiness.
